Last week I was very kindly invited to have a natter over a cup of tea and a slice of cake with the lovely Kate from Heartfelt Vintage. Having previously met at her fabulous ‘Fake Wedding‘ event as part of her wedding planning service The Holistic Wedding Hub, I knew that I was in for an afternoon of perusing gorgeous vintage dresses and accessories in a relaxed, informal and non-judgemental environment.
I should note here that after being told by the lady at my own wedding dress shop (I shall not name them here…) that the dress I purchased was actually 1 inch smaller than my natural waist size and then being not-so-subtly asked “are you planning on losing weight for your wedding?”, the comforting slice of tiffin plus big dose of reality and “the dress should fit the bride not the other way around!” common sense that Kate provides was very much appreciated!
I’ve followed Heartfelt Vintage on social media for a while now and was lucky enough to win entrance to the Fake Wedding that was held back in October at the beautiful Kings Weston House. As soon as I walked in I realised that here Kate (who put her wealth of experience in events management to amazing use) had organised a very different kind of wedding fair. My Maid of Honour and I enjoyed a ‘fake wedding’ fashion show, met with local suppliers of event entertainment and catering, plus had the chance to take part in creative workshops, all through an immersive yet relaxed experience (with a glass of prosecco in hand I might add!). It really brought the fun back to wedding planning and felt far less pressured than any of the other wedding fairs I had seen advertised and carefully avoided!
Through the Holistic Wedding Hub Kate is keen to bring together the very best wedding suppliers who happily dedicate themselves to the non-conformist brides and grooms out there. The aim is to remove the ‘shoulds‘ from wedding planning and get back to you as a couple and ask those important questions – What do you really want? What would make you happy? What’s unique about you? I had to admit, of late the wedding stress (mostly caused by the fear of living up to my pinterest-inspired dreams) had been getting to me. I needed a bit of this independent-minded, fearless, creative thinking! Kate’s matter-of-fact, body-positive and calm, friendly approach was just the ticket.
After putting the world to rights for a good couple of hours over countless cups of tea I took some time to peruse the latest vintage offerings. Kate and Will have created a cosy little hideaway from the world right in the centre of Clifton, Bristol. Sustainable, unique and timeless dresses, vintage veils and delicate accessories adorn the quirky ladder shelves and hanging rails.
Spending time in Heartfelt Vintage feels like going to an old friend’s house for a catch-up over a warming brew and I easily lost track of time in amongst gazing at the beautiful authentic gowns. Kate stocks a variety of vintage wedding dresses and told me of her fantastic in house seamstress who makes alterations a breeze. So much so I’ll be popping back this week for alterations to my veil (it’s about a metre too long!) and I might just have to partake in a scone or two whilst I visit!
Heartfelt Vintage is a vintage lifestyle boutique catering for brides-to-be, vintage fashionistas, sustainable shoppers, afternoon tea enthusiasts, hen party workshops and it also it can be hired as an event space (hop over to read the lovely Sarah from Yes Starling!’s round up of their bespoke private events here). There’s something for everyone here and who doesn’t love a little break from the pressures of the modern world with some loose leaf tea now and again?
