Oh my goodness how are we suddenly in December?! It’s been a while since I’ve posted and time has flown by in a flurry of wedding planning and snow (that unfortunately didn’t stick!) but I’m returning to the blog with a festive and indulgent spa post!
I was recently lucky enough to be invited along to an event showcasing the HarSpa at the Bristol Harbour Hotel. Having only peeked quickly into their sumptuous Gold Bar (more on this delight later) whilst strolling through the nearby St Nicholas market I was keen to explore more of the hotel and to see how exactly the 16th century building which used to house a bank had been lovingly converted. I was not disappointed!
The Harbour Hotel
We began the evening with Christmas pudding cocktails (I kid you not, they tasted exactly as you would hope and were delicious to boot!), a choice of mini treatments, a guided tour of the spa and hotel and the icing on the (Christmas) cake was a goody bag including a voucher for complimentary use of the spa at a later date. What an early festive treat! I opted for a mini-manicure in seasonal dark red (other tasters included a scalp massage or hand and arm massage – all of which had hugely favourable reviews from some very relaxed bloggers!) and I have to say all of the therapists were friendly and attentive. It was also so lovely to hear more about the ESPA products which fill the shelves at the spa and I was particularly taken by their range of oils which are specially selected to tailor to your needs during your treatment. I certainly wouldn’t mind finding one of their ESPA gift boxes in my stocking this year…*hint hint*.
Before I headed home I had a quick tour of the hotel and couldn’t resist a snap of their Gold Bar – the decor in here really is sumptuous and stylish, plus I would love to see what other creations their talented mixologists could create. I also took a quick peek at The Jetty Restaurant and fell in love with the sleek marble surfaces and oversized seats – a repeat visit to experience their locally sourced menu is needed I think!
The following week I took The Canadian for an evening spa session…being in the midst of Christmas countdown at work meant that we were both feeling the need for some indulgence and pampering! We were welcomed at Reception by smiling faces and equipped with robes and slippers before being shown where to find the changing rooms and spa facilities. Set in the former vaults of the building, the original features such as safe doors and curved stone ceilings that have been incorporated into the underground spa certainly give it a quirky and unique appeal. The spa itself features a steam room, sauna, mood-lit pool, jacuzzi with pressure jets and comfortable relaxation areas. Just a few steps away you will also find a well equipped gym should you wish to work up a sweat before your spa experience (I can’t say I made full use of this…the jacuzzi bubbles were just too tempting!).
The HarSpa really has been created with luxury and indulgence in mind and I have to say we both loved our little spa in the city evening getaway. I can’t believe I didn’t know this hidden relaxation gem was just a short stroll away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. If you’re looking for a festive treat for a loved one, or simply fancy escaping the madness of Christmas shopping for a spot of pampering then a few hours spent at the Bristol Harbour Hotel (perhaps complete with festive cocktails!) is the perfect gift!
