The sun was shining, it was ‘pop a cardigan on’ weather and I was lucky enough to be part of a group of Bristol Bloggers invited to the launch of the revamped pub The Mall in Clifton Village – perfect!
I’ve always loved The Mall, being situated close to my work, within the pretty little village of Clifton and being a stone’s throw away from the stunning Suspension Bridge the location is ideal. The fact that it comprises of an upstairs bar as you first walk in, a larger downstairs area with a second bar and a garden/patio area with seating is a huge bonus – although it’s always a popular spot there’s still plenty of room and you never feel as though you’re bustling through a throng of people to get served!
I was keen to explore the revamped interior and was pleasantly surprised to see new chunky wooden tables, gorgeous green leather coloured chairs and a fresh lick of paint. The downstairs space in particular, which could have the danger of feeling a little cramped, looks fresh, airy and spacious.
After heading through a crowd of eager bloggers and instagrammers we approached the Bulldog Gin ‘create your own’ bar. Their knowledgeable bartender was keen to answer our questions and we soon learned that this particular gin is ultra smooth with both depth and a subtle flavour. This meant that unlike other well known brands that favour a specific garnish such as lime or cucumber, with Bulldog you can add your own flavours to create a different experience every time. Luckily for us a platter including fruit and herbs had been provided for us to select our own! My friend and I went for grapefruit and summer berries at first, later switching it up and popping in an anise star (hello hints of Sambuca!) along with lime and orange. I can confirm they all tasted amazing and were the perfect drink to sip on in the evening spring sunshine. It even inspired me to start my own Instagram hashtag #stylemygin (I’d love to see your gin creations too!)
We were also treated to a few tasters from The Mall’s latest menu including a meat and cheese platter, bruschetta with crab or roasted tomato and asparagus, finger sized fish and chips, mini cheeseburgers and pudding of chocolate brownie and lemon tart (we may have indulged in quite a few of those delectable little cubes!). Everything we ate was delicious and made us hungry for more! We’ll definitely be making a return visit to an old favourite, especially so that we can explore the new menu even further. What a tasty way to spend a Thursday evening – thanks to the amazing hosts!
