Spring has finally arrived and we all know what this means – the new fashion season is upon us! I’ve already started digging through last year’s selection and decided that my wardrobe definitely needs a Spring/Summer overhaul. Appropriately timed was this weekend’s ‘Your5’ event at Bristol’s Cabot Circus shopping centre along with ‘Bristol Fashion Week SS2017’ at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway. I was lucky enough to attend both and thought I would share some of the key inspirations that are bang on-trend for the upcoming season.
The ‘Your5’ event at Cabot Circus offered free fashion and beauty styling sessions designed to talk eager fashionistas through the latest looks for Spring/Summer whilst incorporating your body shape and preferences. The Blonde Mama joined me this weekend for belated Mother’s Day celebrations and I thought this would be the ideal ‘girly’ activity (plus, she loves shopping just as much as I do and loves a bargain even more!). We were shown the five key trends and a variety of must-have pieces for the season – The Shirt, The Dress, The Wide Leg Trouser, Sports Luxe and The Mule. I was even fortunate enough to be a competition winner and was presented with a £50 Cabot Circus gift voucher (although how I’ll choose what to buy from all of the dreamy styles I’ve seen I really don’t know!)
During my consultation we also picked up on some of the featured trends that are flying off the rails such as gingham, embroidery and florals. I’ve chosen some of my favourites from the consultation along with a few key pieces that have caught my eye over the last few days for your perusal.
Gingham is huge right now! I can’t say I’m a massive fan of this print (although give me hounds-tooth anyday!) but here are some more subtle styles that are less ‘school-girl checked dress’ and more ‘summer chic’. If you’re not feeling brave enough for all-over ginham then check out (…no pun intended) these fab Boden trousers that will see you through to Autumn.

My fashion consultant Holly could not emphasise enough that the one piece I should be running out to purchase is a white blouse or shirt-dress. I loved the Hallhuber from House of Fraser blouse, it was super soft and amazing quality – definitely a wardrobe staple that will last.

Wide leg trousers or palazzo pants are literally everywhere! Being a bit of a shortie I can’t pull of this look too confidently but there are such a variety out there in the shops that I’m willing to give it a go! I love these Topshop split front trousers that flash a bit of leg as you walk helping to elongate a shorter frame.

Sliders! These flat mules are super hot for Spring/Summer and will work perfectly with dresses, skirts, trousers and shorts – super versatile. I’m loving the cute gem detail on these Zara beauties and we all know that pineapples are a not only a fashion trend but are cropping up in home decor everywhere (including a gorgeous Laura Ashley candle holder that I just had to purchase!).

So there you have my picks for the season ahead! These trends were also echoed in the Bristol Fashion Week catwalk show at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway. Gingham, bright colours, print, embroidery, ruffles and sports luxe all made an appearance and the advice from hosts Henry Holland and Mark Heyes was ‘”if you’re nervous to try a trend, keep it away from your face”. Fling on a pair of bright sandals, wear print trousers, add a gingham belt but embrace new trends in your own style and feel confident in your look.
Which of the new season trends do you think you’ll be adding to your wardrobe?
