After my recent post about the importance of making sure to find time for a ‘me day‘ and indulge in some well earned pampering, I was super excited to follow my own advice after being invited to Saks Bristol for a pre-wedding treatment! Every time I head to a beauty salon whether it be for a facial, a massage or to have a manicure I always tell myself that it’s a little treat that really should happen more often! We all have such busy schedules these days that it’s hard to book some time away to take care of your skin, hair and even your mental health but it really should be part of our well-being routine. With Saks conveniently located a short walk away at the bottom of Park Street I couldn’t wait to make an appointment and spend a few hours away from the world of ‘wedmin’!
The moment I stepped into Saks I knew I was going to be pampered in the most attentive and luxurious way. I was welcomed with a huge smile by lovely Becky (the manager) and her team of therapists before being shown to their cosy waiting area. With the big day only six weeks away I had perused the wide range of treatments available and opted for a facial peel that would hopefully give my skin a deep clean and leave it healthy and glowing. Becky took the time to sit with me and discuss the ins and outs not only my current facial routine but also my sleeping patterns, stress levels and general health. That one-to-one consultation not only set me completely at ease but also reassured me that the treatment provided would be tailored exactly to my skins’ needs.
I’m a little bit of a novice when it comes to facial skincare, like most of us I read articles, reviews and blogs about the latest skincare research and products but there’s just so much choice available – how do you know what’s right for you?! I’d mentioned to Becky that my last visit to a beauty salon hadn’t been a very positive one (I’d felt shamed by my therapist for not wearing SPF religiously and declining to buy their promoted £70 serum that I just ‘had to have‘, resulting in me cancelling my follow-up appointment) and that I was a confused about my skin type and exactly what I needed to be prioritising. Becky soon allayed all my fears – she was genuine, caring and gave advice without being patronising or judgemental which I was hugely grateful for! With thirteen years experience under her belt, Becky assessed my face quickly and efficiently, discussing my history of acne, concerns about fine lines (who doesn’t have those eh?!) hydration, and the sensitivity of my skin before recommending her choice of facial peel.
I have to say the next hour or so was pure bliss! I snuggled under the heated blankets (I need one of these at home!) and prepared for my treatment. Becky talked through each part of the routine and explained the science behind the products she was using. Saks use a range of Decléor, and Skeyndor ( A Nobel Prize winning brand loved by a bunch of celebs no less!) products and I have to say they smelled and felt amazing on my skin. We began with a thorough cleanse before applying the peel – I should point out here that it is no where near as scary as it may sound, if you’re visualising Samantha Jones in SATC with a bright red face, think again! The peel is applied just like a face mask and left to work for about 10 minutes, it’s pain-free and I only felt a very slight cool tingling when it was first applied (plus my skin looked hydrated and positively glowing afterwards!). Following the peel Becky applied a calming mask and treated me to a fabulous head and shoulder massage and I even took away a little bag of skincare samples to try at home!
My whole experience at Saks was pampering perfection from beginning to end…I’ll definitely be making a return visit! Saks have a comprehensive Head-to-Toe beauty menu including waxing, brows and lashes, manicures, pedicures and massages so you really are spoilt for choice, plus as a brand with 40 years experience in the industry you know you’re in expert hands. Saks also offer bespoke treatments for special occasions such as pre-party make-up, bridal services and lunch-hour express treatments. With franchises found across the country there’s bound to be a salon near you and if you’re in Bristol Saks are currently offering your first treatment with them half price!
